Potential grooms take not - when it comes to jackets size matters and big is best as far as Giorgio Armani is concerned. At his Milan menswear show for Spring 2019 the king of Italian fashion threw his weight behind double-breasted jackets and wide lapels.
Calling it the star of the collection, Mr Armani made a bold move away from stiff tailoring towards something far more relaxed and versatile but still classic.
"Offered in different fabrics and patterns, the jacket takes on a soft, formal appearance, acquiring the sporty look of a blouson, or becoming a garment to be worn casually on the beach," the post-show release said.
There’s also good news for men who have spent too long at the gym and struggle to fit into traditionally narrow European cuts or skinny suits.
"Dimensions are re-worked, with shoulders that highlight the slightly over-sized proportions, and the outfit is completed with wide-bottomed trousers, always marked by turned –up hems."
When it comes to colour Mr Armani is decidedly muted but the navy and stones are our pick.
"The chromatic spectrum shuns strong, clear colours in favour of light shades, ranging from chalk white to hemp grey, interspersed with blue and accents of turquoise, jade green and powder blue, always seen through a sandy filter."
Do I hear 'beach wedding'?
