Everything old is new again, just ask Cher. Suddenly the British perfumer Penhaligon's, serving tweedy types since 1870, is cooler than a Tokyo hipster pouring a beetroot latte, while a vinyl record scratches happily in the background.
Silver fox grooms will be assured by Penhaligon's, while bright young things will be inspired by it.
With its latest collection of three limited edition fragrances, Hidden London, the company’s cool credentials continue to skyrocket. Whether you’re looking for something to wear on your wedding day, gift your father-in-law or keep your best man from reeking of last night’s Patron overload, Penhaligon's combination of contemporary scents with old school packaging hits the mark.
"It’s quite distinctive," says Michael Marzano, the expert at fragrance kingdom Agence de Parfum.
"It has no heart note and goes from grapefruit right to the dry down. It’s a very quick progression. And it’s incredibly rich and smoky with sandalwood and cedarwood from Morocco and patchouli to give it a little green bite."

Sure, the wood evokes the rich mahogany interiors of Marylebone mansions and the green notes add a touch of Regents Park but it’s the deceiving simplicity of the scent which makes it perfect for days when you want to subtly stand out.
Just as important as Pellegrin’s scent is the bang-on packaging that gives any bathroom a reality show upgrade that leaves your Aesop handwash in the background.
Penhaligon's Marylebone Wood (100ml), $299 from Libertine.
